Louisiana Department of Revenue Grants Tax Extensions to Hurricane Gustav Victims
The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is granting filing extensions to taxpayers whose filing addresses or whose tax preparers' addresses are located in Louisiana communities declared federal disaster areas by President Bush following Hurricane Gustav. Taxpayers who reside outside of a disaster area but whose books, records or tax professionals are located in the relief area will also be assisted.

Update on Water Systems under Boil Advisory
Hurricane Gustav has caused widespread power outages and damage to drinking water systems throughout Louisiana.

Points of Distribution (POD) Locations Announced
Today, points of distribution (POD) locations were released. The PODs will offer ice, water, food, and tarps.

DOTD Re-opens Ferries
In preparation for the return of thousands of Orleans and Jefferson parish citizens, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has re-opened the Algiers/Canal Street and Lower Algiers/Chalmette ferries.

Change in St. Martin Parish Point of Distribution
The Butte Larose Fire Station Distribution site will close at 7:00 p.m. Friday night and will not re-open tomorrow. The site will be moved Saturday to Henderson at Henry Guidry Memorial Park in Henderson. Hours for distribution at Henry Guidry Memorial Park will be on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Weekend hours for the St. Martinville-Magnolia Park distribution site for MRE'S, water, and ice are as follows: Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

DHH Urges Residents to Protect Themselves from Gustav's Mosquitoes
DHH is encouraging Louisiana residents to "Fight the Bite," by protecting themselves from mosquitoes and the deadly diseases they carry. The overflowing ditches and standing water left after Hurricane Gustav can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

EPA fuel waiver will make gas more available in southeast U.S.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) granted a request for an extension to a waiver of certain fuel requirements, according to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The extension means gas will be more readily available. This waiver will allow fuel providers to more effectively manage fuel shipments and to minimize fuel shortages.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance available for victims of Hurricane Gustav
People whose jobs have been lost or interrupted because of the disaster in the 36 parishes eligible for individual disaster assistance as a result of Hurricane Gustav also are eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), the Louisiana Workforce Commission announced today.

Louisiana Chief Medical Officer Continues to Update Number of Gustav Fatalities
In addition to the 19 fatalities related to Gustav confirmed as of Thursday, Sept. 4, four additional fatalities were confirmed today, bringing the total fatalities related to Hurricane Gustav to 23.

Diocese of Baton Rouge Closes School through next Tuesday
All Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, except the four schools in Tangipahoa Parish, will be closed Monday and Tuesday. There will be an update on Tuesday as far as future opening.

Dularge Overpass/Bridge Closed to Vehicle Traffic
The Dularge Bridge on LA 315 is experiencing a mechanical failure. The bridge is closed to vehicle traffic until further notice. The bridge is open for boat traffic.

DHH Issues Memorandum to Hospitals, Nursing Homes Regarding Patient Repatriation
The following memo was sent today to Louisiana health care facilities.

Health Officials Warn Against Heat Stroke Risk
Department of Health and Hospitals officials are cautioning residents in hurricane-impacted areas about the increased risk of succumbing to heat stroke in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav.

Interstate 10 Closing for Entergy Crews
Louisiana State Police-Troop A will be closing Interstate 10 both eastbound and westbound today for utility work by Entergy Corporation.
