Mobile Units to Assist With Unemployment Insurance Claims, Job Needs The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has activated four mobile units in south Louisiana to take new Unemployment Insurance claims and provide job search and placement services. The units are equipped with banks of computers connected by satellite to the LWC's computer systems. La. Workforce Commission Processing Unemployment Benefit Payments The restoration of power and networking services to the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) is enabling the agency to process unemployment benefit payments today for the first time since Hurricane Gustav struck last week.

DEQ Updates Gustav Recovery Efforts
The Department of Environmental Quality and its partners have found no threats from industry-related malfunction that would cause harm to human health or the environment during these extensive assessments. There have been several fish kills and small spills reported, but nothing that the agencies involved would consider "major" or a threat.
LDAF Fulfills Emergency Fuel Mission
Emergency generators helped the LDAF disburse more than a million gallons of fuel to emergency responders across the state during response to Hurricane Gustav. The LDAF shipped and pumped 498,000 gallons of gas, 580,078 gallons of diesel and 179,000 pounds of aviation gas.
DEQ Hotline Back in Working Order
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality now has its normal hotline back in order. If someone should have an environmental concern, they should call the DEQ hotline at 225-219-3640 or 1-888-763-5424 for assistance.
Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Strain Visits Farmers
Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., said Hurricane Gustav dumped more than 20 inches of rain on farmers across the state and damaged vital infrastructure. Strain embarked on a tour of the rain-soaked agricultural areas over the weekend with visits to Paincourtville, White Castle, Winnsboro, Gilbert and Bunkie.

The Louisiana Department of Education officials has released a new report outlining the progress of school districts across the state in their efforts to reopen.
